Favorite comic book quotes
Today, I cheat. The quotes aren’t really from a comic book, but do involve a comic book character, one of my favorites beyond the obvious reasons that I will share at some point.
The character, of course, is Batman. The source material is the 1992-1995, Batman animated series. I was reminded how fantastic the series was while listening to the last Around Comics podcast. The art style was superb, dark and original for its time, coming out of the dregs of the 1980s cartoon art and a bit mature with much of the writing headed up by Paul Dini.
I wasn’t quite a young kid in 1992. Well, I was in high school wondering why I didn’t have a girlfriend. But anyway, I specifically remember the radio advertisement for the series. If I remember correctly the catchline was a play on the first Tim Burton Batman movie as well. Come on, repeat it with me:
“What are you?”
“I am vengeance. I am the night. I am . . . Batman!”

Of course, while trying to verify that quote (which I never really did. It was from memory. I hope I was right) I found this quote on IMDB.com:
Selina Kyle: You’ve got to admit there’s something between us.
Batman: Yes. It’s the law.
Great, great stuff. There is a complete series collection out there, but its reprinting has been discontinued. Wish I had the money to purchase one of the remaining sets on Amazon.
